At Bireli’s we do not claim to be
experts on the wines of the world, there are already many
wine merchants trading who have the right to claim that honour.
We only offer wines from the region of France that we know
and love, the Loire Valley. Our selection is small but the
wines are impressive and full of personality.
Montlouis is a famous white
wine and rosé producing town on the left bank of the
Loire to the east of the ancient capital of France, Tours.
Our Montlouis white wines are sourced from the independent
viticulteur Martin-Christian who offer the full range of taste
from sec (dry) through to doux (sweet) and liquoreux (very
sweet and liquer like) as are our sparkling wines which are
made using traditional methods. The Montlouis rosé
offered is a sec.
St Nicolas de Borgueil
is a well respected wine producing area to the north of Saumur
near to the town of Borgueil. The vineyards are lovingly cultivated
by both the small producteur like M. Hersard of La Gardière,
our supplier and the larger family owned producers all of
whom send this unmistakable flavoured wine of the area to
restaurants in the region and further afield.
Plou & Fils are an
ancient wine producer who go back to the 16th century and
are situated on the left bank of the Loire to the east of
Amboise. They produce fine reds and rosés which have
the indefinable characteristic of the Loire often to be found
in Borgueils and Saumurs.
